Home Improvement

I’m in the midst of finding a new apartment to move into and let me just tell you that it has my head a reelin’ with dreams of home decor.

My mom is a real estate agent and every now and then when I was in high school and college, she’d take me on tour with her to see open houses on weekends. While some might find this tedious or boring, I was enamored by the possibilities each open space brought with it.

“Oooh, I think I’d put my couch here and paint the walls there. Mom, what color would you paint this room?”

Years later that joy has never left me and open, empty houses still make me as excited as ever! Even when a house needs a little more love and a lot of extra attention (#popcornceilings), I’m inspired by the transformation that could take place.

After touring a number of homes, I’ve started to put together an idea for what my ideal new space will look like in a few months.

I’m brainstorming the rooms one-by-one and will share the ideas as they start to come together in my mind!

To get started, here’s what my idea board looks like for a potential dining space:

Kitchen Mood Board
Art//Hanging Plant//Chair//Flatware//Rug//Plant//Table

I like that it’s simple enough but has enough texture and color to keep it interesting. I’ve also never had enough natural light in an apartment to keep a plant alive so here’s to hoping the next one will allow for it! Otherwise I might just need to get a fake so I can still keep this vibe going 🙂

Where are your favorite places to go for design inspiration? Do you do the same thing when you go to open houses?

I can’t wait to share the rest of my mood boards with you!

xxo, Kristen
